The head of the Senate Armed Services Committee said a key defense acquisition reform law passed four years ago that focused on weapon system requirements, costs and schedules has helped the Defense Department stabilize and improve acquisition, pointing to anecdotal "satisfaction." Speaking Wednesday at a breakfast with reporters in Washington, Sen. Carl Levin (D-MI) said the May 2009 Weapon Systems Acquisition Reform Act that he helped spearhead appears to have made a difference, although it is too early to tell the full impact. The department needs to continue to implement the changes laid out in the law, he said.
