AI and data initiative could inform COCOMs on how to enable JWCC

The Pentagon's new artificial intelligence and data accelerator initiative will help inform the Defense Department on how to enable combatant commands to use the Joint Warfighting Cloud Capability, a senior DOD official said this week. The department through the ADA initiative, launched earlier this year as part of the Joint All Domain Command and Control strategy, is sending technical AI expert teams to all 11 combatant commands as the first step in an effort to better manage data and AI-dependent concepts. Speaking at the AFCEA TechNet Cyber conference on Wednesday, acting DOD CIO Kelly Fletcher said the department is seeing different levels of data maturity across combatant commands. "They have different datasets and they have wildly diverse missions," she said. "What we're doing with ADA is we're trying to enable combatant commands to identify where they have data that would benefit the enterprise, where they have data that it would be beneficial to sort of mash it up against each other internal to themselves. And we want to enable them to be successful with some of the tools that have been created at the enterprise level."
