Ship, sub maintenance top Navy's $3.2 billion unfunded priorities

Posted March 25, 2019 Ship and submarine depot maintenance are at the top of the Navy's $3.2 billion unfunded priorities list with deferred and backlogged maintenance availabilities totaling $814 million. In its annual funding wish list, sent to Congress March 22 and obtained by Inside Defense, Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson states that fiscal year 2019 ship depot maintenance and modernization "financial shortfalls associated with work scope and pricing growth ... have resulted in additional FY-20 costs that will impact operational availability if not addressed."
