When dealing with large blocks of text in PageMaker, using the Story Editor is more efficient and allows for word processing functions not available in layout view. But, another big advantage is the Story Editor's ability to manipulate special characters, or meta characters. Meta characters identify typographic symbols or extended character sets, such as bullets, dashes, index markers, or hyperlinks.
