FERC on Thursday approved a 44-year license for the continued operation of the Priest Rapids project, the second-highest capacity hydropower facility under commission jurisdiction and the largest in the Northwest.rnIn its presentation of the item at last week's regular agenda meeting, FERC staff also indicated that license applications and requests for pre-license consultations have been coming into the commission at an increasing pace. Pending license and pre-fil-ing applications currently represent a possible 10,000 MW increase in hydropower generation, staff said.rnThe commission granted to the Public Utility District No. 2 of Grant County, Washington, a license to continue operating its 1,893 MW Priest Rapids project (P-2114) located on the mid-Columbia River. The 2,755 MW Niagara Hydroelectric project in New York is the largest project operating under a FERC license.
