After several years of tweaking its system to foster development of hydrokinetic projects, FERC is expected in 2009 to receive requests to initiate pilot project licensing proceedings for at least two dozen projects that currently hold preliminary permits.rnCommission staff last year granted filing extensions to about two dozen developers to give them an extra year to file notices of intent and draft applications for pilot project licenses. Among them are potential wave and tidal power projects in Alaska, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, New Hampshire, Oregon and Washington. One pilot project license application deadline extension request is still pending.
