FERC OKs PSE &G request for release from buying from qualifying facilities over 20 MW

Public Service Electric & Gas no longer has to buy newnpower from qualifying facilities larger than 20 MW in the PJMnInterconnection.nIn an order issued last week, FERC acknowledged PSE&G’snconcern that larger qualifying facilities under the Public UtilitynRegulatory Policies Act have access to competitive wholesalenmarkets in PJM. The May 12 order (QM11-1), which appliesnonly to new contracts signed by PSE&G, noted that the utilityn“has satisfied all of the criteria for exemption from the requirementnto purchase electricity from QFs over 20 MW as set forthnin PURPA Section 210(m) and Section 292.309(a) of the commission’snregulations.”
