FitzPatrick to shut if ZECs are blocked; separate battle over sale of unit brewing at FERC

Any successful attempt to block implementation of a New York energyrnplan that would provide zero-emissions credits to three upstaternnuclear power plants prior to January’s scheduled refueling ofrnEntergy’s FitzPatrick nuclear plant would prompt the licensee tornpermanently shut the unit, an Entergy spokeswoman said October 25.rnAt issue is the Clean Energy Standard adopted August 1 by the NewrnYork Public Service Commission that would make nearly $8 billionrnworth of these credits, or ZECs, available over 12 years, beginning Aprilrn1, to Exelon’s 640 MW Nine Mile Point-1, 1,362 MW Nine Mile Point-2, andrn597 MW Ginna, and Entergy’s 849 MW FitzPatrick.
