As winter heating season looms, Northeast gas pipeline projects gear up for service

With November 1 just days away, requests to begin service have been filed on several US Northeast major pipeline expansions, though certain other projects targeting service in the coming days have been notably absent so far, signaling a potential delay. The largest set of projects scheduled to enter service on November 1 this year are TransCanada’s 1.5 Bcf/d Leach XPress (CP15-514) project, on Columbia Gas Transmission, and the associated 621 MMcf/d Rayne XPress project (CP15-539), on Columbia Gulf Transmission. The 1.5 Bcf/d of producer-backed takeaway capacity on Leach XPress is designed to support substantial new production growth in Ohio and West Virginia, while Rayne XPress would expand north-to-south flows along the Columbia Gulf system, transporting US Northeast shale gas to markets along the Gulf Coast region.
