Cybersecurity, large-scale grid disruptions on agenda for FERC reliability conference

FERC next month will look for answers from industry and government sources on how to tackle new and emerging threats to the grid that could cause large-scale and long-term disruptions to the bulk power system, according to an agenda released last week for a day-long technical conference on reliability slated for June 22. Deliberate attacks, accidents or naturally occurring events impacting the gas and power sectors carry with them the potential for significant human and economic harm from prolonged blackouts, the commission's May 23 notice (AD17-8) on the conference said.
