Permian, Anadarko gas production hikes forcing expansion of takeaway capacity

Rapidly increasing production in the liquids-rich Permian and Anadarko basins has triggered a flurry of proposed gas pipeline projects, as concern grows about takeaway capacity from the basins to growing demand markets. Over the last few months, competition in the form of discounted gas basis in the Permian and Anadarko has arisen as producers compete for downstream market share for associated gas volumes. While on the surface there looks to be sufficient takeaway capacity, capacity to downstream markets with growing demand is limited, leading to this competition to the bottom in gas prices as producers in both areas continue to aim for highgrowth targets.
