Value of DER aggregations debated by grid operators at FERC technical conference

US wholesale power market operators are not seeing eye to eye on the potential benefits of distributed energy resource aggregations as interest in the aggregations has yet to be proven. A panel of grid operator executives kicked off a two-day technical conference at the FERC April 10, raising a number of technical and operational matters associated with DER aggregations’ impact on the markets and bulk power system, but also showing disparity among the regions on the level of support for market rule changes to accommodate DER aggregations.
