Group sees path for 100 GW of storage by 2030 but pandemic, other bumps ahead

Despite headwinds worsened by the coronavirus pandemic, the energy storage sector is sticking to its projections that the road ahead will not only support but likely require 100 GW of new energy storage by 2030.The sector is on track to more than double annual deployments by the end of the year, even with project delays brought on by the coronavirus outbreak, unexpected tariffs placed on Chinese batteries and associated equipment and a new executive order that could further complicate equipment procurement, Energy Storage Association CEO Kelly Speakes-Backman said at the group's annual conference Aug. 24, held virtually because of the health crisis.
