CFTC looks to simplify swap data reporting, harmonize with other regulators

The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission is poised to proposechanges to two regulations Thursday in order to simplify swap datareporting by scrapping requirements that it deems duplicative, unlikelyto enhance oversight or unlikely to improve price transparency.The agency will also push off action on a third, related rule thatwould have required swaps counterparties to verify swaps data.Instead, a public comment period would be reopened on that April 2019proposal, which had drawn energy sector warnings that burdensomenew requirements might create barriers to market entry.The three regulations are part of an effort to resolve troubles withincomplete or inconsistent swaps data that have been seen ashampering the CFTC’s ability to surveil derivatives markets followingthe 2008 financial collapse.
