Democrats in the House of Representatives are seeking answers fromthe Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on the agency’s proposalto overhaul a law that requires US utilities to buy power from certainrenewable and combined heat and power generators at fixed-pricecontracts.In a November 8 letter, House Committee on Energy andCommerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Democrat-New Jersey, andRepresentative Bobby Rush, Democrat-Illinois, told FERC ChairmanNeil Chatterjee they are worried the commission is overstepping itsauthority by proposing changes to the Public Utility RegulatoryPolicies Act that essentially constitute “a wholesale rewrite” of the1978 statute.
