FERC issues final EIS for Port Arthur LNG project; approval still pending

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on Thursday issued a largely favorable environmental finding for an LNG facility and associated pipelines proposed to be built on the US Gulf Coast. The final environmental impact statement covered the Sempraowned Port Arthur Liquefaction Project and the Texas Connector Project and Louisiana Connector projects, two pipelines proposed to carry gas to the LNG liquefaction and export terminal. LNG industry advocates on Thursday cheered the completion of the final EIS by the scheduled January 31 deadline for the document set last summer by FERC. “It’s obviously good news that they received their final EIS,” Charlie Riedl, executive director of trade group Center for Liquefied Natural Gas, said in an interview Thursday. “But the reality is that the final EIS is not the final step at FERC.”
