Carbon Dioxide Removing Sorbents for Hydrogen Production Applications

Hydrogen is produced from hydrocarbons through processes such as steam reforming and partial oxidation. In the water-gas shift reaction, the reaction between carbon monoxide and water forms hydrogen and carbon dioxide (CO_2). Hydrogen that is separated from CO_2 in the synthesis gas produced can be further utilized in refineries, chemical industry, and as a carrier for energy production. The CO_2 byproduct accounts for the carbon content present in the hydrocarbon and can be recovered or sequestrated.
