摘要

It is eminent that energy generation from renewable sources would be the way forward globally. Developments of various means of tapping into renewable energy sources have shadowed most other scientific disciplines in the past decade. However, there is still a question of how and when such energy sources would replace fossil fuel energy sources. Till today, power generation from fossil fuel sources remains the main source of energy. Coal would remain an important feedstock for energy generation for a long time. As such, clean coal technologies are becoming increasingly important. Advances such as ultracritical coal generators are making significant inroads, notably in China. Economies of scale is picking up, allowing lower cost of deployment for such technologies. Apart from increasing conversion efficiency of coal plants, carbon capture could also play an important role in further reducing carbon emission.
