Three-dimensional (3D) printers can fashion parts with great precision, such as electronic components, medical implants, and aircraft fasteners. Robots can assemble such parts with similar levels of accuracy faster than human workers. While robots can be designed to assemble and weld together large parts, such as automobile bodies and aircraft panels, 3D printers are limited to manufacturing relatively small parts because of their restricted build envelopes.
