3. NOVEL PAPER-BASED AUGMENTED REALITY SYSTEM FOR VIRTUALIZING PRINTED MATERIALS

Marker-based Augmented Reality (AR), normally functions through Quick Response (QR) codes and bar code based triggers. Such markers make AR an unsuitable technology for paper-based documents. These markers could smudge the paper resulting in damaged or disarrayed papers which in turn could result in critical documents becoming invalid. Image recognition algorithms cannot be used as they are not exclusive for specific documents and tend to trigger the augments whenever a similar image is recognized anywhere. Researchers are trying to develop an AR application that could allow users to take full advantage of content present in official documents.
