摘要

Due to the high global demand for materials, namely those with low environmental impact, recovery and reuse of industrial by-products are commonly recommended. One such type of by-product is ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) which is produced from the iron-making process. In Algeria, GGBFS is exclusively produced by El Hadjar steel plant. Since it has suitable chemical composition and high calcium silicate content, it has been widely investigated and used as mineral additive to ordinary Portland cement. Beside the environmental friendliness and economical benefits, the use of Algerian GGBFS enhanced many technical properties of the cementitious materials. This article proposes a review summary of the recent studies carried out on using Algerian GGBFS. It recapitulates the improvements noticed on paste, mortar and concrete mixtures, when this waste partially replaces conventional cement.
