摘要

It's been a long time coming, but it seems as though the government's response to the RHI consultation has been worth the wait. Since the consultation was first released in March 2016, we've seen the Brexit EU referendum result, a new Prime Minister and the dissolution of DECC. The long-awaited RHI consultation response finally came on 15 December 2016 from DECC's successor, BEIS. It brought with it an end to months of instability for the UK's food waste anaerobic digestion (AD) industry, which has struggled to maintain the growth trajectory seen in previous years in the face of cuts to the Feed-in Tariff, the closure of the Renewables Obligation, and the long-term uncertainty around the Renewable Heat Incentive. Combined with the English government's inability to follow the devolved administrations' lead of banning food waste to landfill, 2016 was something of a damp squib for food waste AD. Finally, the industry has something to smile about again.
