Architects: Business decisions influence IT frameworks

Architectures require architects. So who are the people responsible for drafting IT blueprints? And what things influence their designs? At Reuters, chief architecture officer Barry Skingle works with chief technology officer Mike Sayers, CIO Greg Meekings, and a small staff of tech specialists to define an architectural framework that takes into account systems and software that are managed by other groups. The framework is based first and foremost on key business functions or services offered by Reuters, called domains. Customer-relationship management is one domain; price discovery―a key element of Reuters' financial-information offering―is another.
