Despite escalating concerns about IT security, business-technology managers remain fairly optimistic on the prospects of the U.S. economy and their businesses. Information Week Research's quarterly IT Confidence Index fell 11.5% since March. Yet the index, which is based on telephone and Web interviews last month with 300 business-technology managers, is at the second-highest level since its inception in March 2001 and up 35% from the same quarter a year ago. Dan Strickler, a systems manager at the Times-News newspaper in Kingsport, Tenn., isn't sure why he's optimistic "other than the belief that America will rally against its enemies and be able to improve global stability and increase the global demand for [our] goods," he says.
