Royal dutch shell is giving its workers the hard sell for softphones. At VoiceCon Amsterdam, Royal Dutch Shell Group IT architect Johan Kreb-bers said Shell employees on the road are encouraged to use softphones -voice-over-IP connections through their PCs-to save on international calls. The expectation is that they'll get comfortable enough with the softphone to use it in the office as well. The goal is to get to the point where it's "hard phone only if really needed," said Krebbers, who said some locations-places like refineries and chemical plants, where a single-function voice device is needed-will keep their hard phones.
