Cisco's planned $215 million acquisition of a company called PostPath looks an awful lot like fuel for Cisco to compete with Microsoft's unified communications strategy. The purchase puts Cisco more in the mix when companies are strategizing on how to migrate and possibly integrate their Exchange-based e-mail systems with unified communications capabilities like those in Microsoft's Office Communications Server or in Cisco's UC offerings. Cisco's can be either cloud-based using WebEx or on-premises using Unified Communications Manager IP-PBX.
