Sun microsystems is going head to head with Microsoft and Adobe as it looks to get a critical mass of developers using its new JavaFX scripting language. The company is placing special emphasis on building rich Internet applications for smartphones and other handheld devices with JavaFX, as shown by a promised mobile version of the new environment. During the opening session of Sun's JavaOne conference, held last week in San Francisco, Rich Green, senior VP of software at Sun, said capturing users of these devices is critical for companies doing business on the Web.
