The U.S. house of representatives is considering a better way for employers to confirm whether potential employees can legally work in the country. The New Employee Verification Act provides a system that would replace the existing E-Verify system, which only about 100,000 of the United States' 7 million employers use. E-Verify, launched in 1996, is a voluntary system, but several states are considering mandating its use, as Arizona already has done.
