The National Institute of Standards and Technology has released a draft document outlining the security and privacy issues around using public cloud services and advising agencies on how to minimize the risks. NIST had already been working on cloud security guidelines when, in December, federal ClOVivek Kundra issued a "cloud first" policy that requires agencies to consider cloud computing for new IT requirements. NIST's guidance will help federal IT pros meet that mandate with greater confidence that their data and applications will be safe.
