SAP has a new partnership with cloud app vendor NetBase through which it will resell NetBase's social media analytics capabilities. It's a significant catch-up move in the social sphere that comes just after SAP announced its plan to acquire SuccessFactors for $3.4 billion to jump-start its cloud strategy. SuccessFactors makes cloud-based human resources apps, but its CEO, Lars Dalgaard, will head up all of SAP's cloud strategy, signaling the deal is part of a broader SAP push to keep up with cloud rivals, foremost among them Salesforce.com. Likewise, the NetBase partnership will help SAP quickly respond to Sales-force's social enterprise strategy, including this year's acquisition of Radian6, which provides sentiment analysis of social media discussions.
