Guest Editorial: Special section on software reliability and security

This special section is a selection of papers from the 5th International Conference on Secure Software Integration and Reliability Improvement (SSIRI), held June 27 to June 29, 2011 in Jeju Island, Korea.SSIRI is the annual technical conference sponsored by the IEEE Reliability Society focussing on software security and reliability. It allows both researchers and practitioners to present their ongoing ideas, experiences, and outcomes for building reliable and secure software in a more efficient way.In response to the SSIRI 2011 call for papers, 56 papers were submitted to the conference. These papers were evaluated on the basis of their significance, novelty, and technical quality. At the end of the process, 18 were selected as regular papers for the presentation at the conference, giving an acceptance rate of about 32%.
