Digital Dead End: Fighting for Social Justice in the Information Age

Popular rhetoric suggests that encouraging the growth of the information technology (IT) industry will bring increased opportunities to the poor and disadvantaged. In her 2011 book, Virginia Eubanks disputes this claim and suggests an alternative approach for reducing social inequalities that makes a concerted effort to an understand technology from the standpoint of those in lower socioe-conomic positions. By interviewing and collaborating with members of a YWCA group in Troy, New York, Eubanks embarked on a methodological, practical, and activist research project.
