DavidWeinberger, Fellow at the Harvard Berkman Center for Internet and Society, started the openingnkey-note session with the provocative statement that the ‘era of authority is over’ in Beyond Authority.n“Many of our basic assumptions about how ideas and information ought to be organized springnfrom limitations on the physical, that simply don’t apply in the digital, connected world. As we unlearnnthe old lessons and invent new principles of organization, the nature and role of authority is itselfnchanging. While we will always need authenticated information, it is assuming a new role in our culture,nthus altering the institutions and businesses that provide it. As with any important cultural transformation,nthe new role may seem dangerous or even silly, but the change is nonetheless both profoundnand liberating”, David Weinberger argued “that the authority of knowledge is becoming social, politicized,nfallible, and more truly reflective of human needs and human nature”.
