Honors and Awards Dinner

In a longstanding tradition, SID honored the display industry's innovators on the Monday evening of Display Week. In the latest implementation of a longstanding tradition, the Society for Information Display Honors and Awards Committee held its annual banquet and ceremonies on Monday, June 5, at the San Jose Fairmont Hotel. Those who attended could again see that seemingly "overnight successes" are generally the result of decades of dedicated and visionary scientific leadership. This was well illustrated by the two co-recipients of the Jan Rajchman Prize, Ching W. Tang and Steve Van Slyke. Both these members of Kodak's elite research and development fraternity were recognized "For pioneering contributions to the underlying science and technology of organic light-emitting diodes that led to the commercialization of flat-panel OLED displays." As co-inventors of the thin-film organic light-emitting diode (TFOLED) Tang and Van Slyke spent more than 40 man-years bringing the technology to its current state of commercialization.
