On Monitor Safari at CeBIT 2001

ID's intrepid monitor explorers felt intimidated by the stampede of new flat-screen CRT monitors at CeBIT, but found some elegant new LCD giants that stood out from the herd. Roaming the plains of CeBIT 2001 proved as exhausting as ever. Just finding the most interesting stands at the Hannover Messe between March 22 and 28 was a feat in itself, since this year the show attracted 8106 exhibitors (compared with 7892 in 2000), of which 1368 were IT hardware providers. As one would expect, most of the exhibitors were native to Germany, with German companies making up 62% of the companies present. The largest foreign contingents were from Taiwan (7%), the U.S.A. (6%), and Great Britain (4%). The exhibitors attracted 830,000 attendees.
