Vince Lombardi may have been the ultimate sports winner. In his nine years as head coach of the Green Bay Packers, he won five NFL championships. So it might be wise to take his advice: "Leaders are made; they are not born. They are made by hard effort, which is the price which all of us must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile." At HE, there's plenty of opportunity for members to make themselves leaders. This year, HE is seeking to fill four board of trustees positions: senior vice president at large for academics, senior vice president at large for continuing education, senior vice president for regional operations, and presidentelect. Non-BOT positions available are the vice president of technical operations and two regional vice presidents. All board members serve for three years and must attend four face-to-face meetings per year: the March, August and December meetings at HE headquarters in Norcross, Ga. (metro Atlanta), along with the meeting at the HE Annual Conference, typically in May. Board members also participate in monthly conference calls.
