Enzymatic processing of waste silk fabric

Enzymatic treatment of the spun silk with cellulase and proteolytic enzyme, Degummase 1000 L, has been carried out with a view to obtain a clean fabric with a softer handle, reduced lousiness and increased wettability. It is observed that treatment With cellulase and protease in conjunction not only results in removal of impurities but also improves the wettability of the fabric. Enzyme-treated fabrics have softer handle. Treatment conditions have been optimized with respect to concentration and temperature of the enzymes.
