In 2010, BNSF customers reduced emissions by more than 23 million tons of CO2, which is equivalent to reducing the consumption and resultant emissions of more than two billion gallons of diesel fuel. For the third year in a row, the rail carrier provided its intermodal, automotive, industrial products, and agricultural products customers with customized letters analyzing their total rail carbon footprint and savings compared to movements of those shipments via the highway.
