Maersk Line signed an agreement to apply SeaQuantum X200 anti-fouling hull coating to its Triple-E vessels, including the 10 in operation and an additional 10 still being built. The coating minimizes fuel costs and greenhouse gas emissions by keeping the underwater hull surface smooth and clean. Virgin Atlantic Cargo will replace its existing air cargo containers with lightweight alternatives. The carrier recently purchased 802 lightweight containers, and plans to eventually replace all of its 3,200 units. Virgin expects the new containers to save fuel and reduce CO_2 emissions by 565 tons in 2014. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey earmarked $7.5 million for energy conservation improvements that are expected to reduce annual CO_2 emissions by 2,000 tons at Kennedy International Airport. The improvements include upgrading the steam system and exterior and interior lighting, and installing a natural gas boiler.
