Driving Progress in Emergency Communications through Public Safety Partnerships

Interoperability is defined as the ability of emergency response personnel-at all levels of government and across all disciplines-to communicate via voice, data, and video on demand, in real time, when needed, and when authorized. Since the tragic events of September 11, 2001, government initiatives to enhance coordination have made progress in improving emergency communications nationwide. One example is the establishment of, and coordination provided through, the SAFECOM program.
