The above warnings and advice are attempts to address what we found to be persisting problems regarding retrofits by technicians having dubious credentials. Some states require that installations be made by properly licensed technicians while other states require certified installers. Two of the most widely accepted certifications for this purpose are those of NICET (National Certification in the Engineering Technologies) and the IMSA (International Municipal Signal Association).
