A while ago I read in the Local papers about a fatal fire in an illegal rooming house located a block or so from my first house (that I bought over 50 years ago!). It happens that the landlord clandestinely built and rented out apartments that were not only illegal, but had no smoke alarms, muLtiple points of egress, etc. Prison sentences ensued, with millions awarded in regard to liabilities and now I read that legal attempts were also pending against the previous owner who actually built the illegal apartments and is now living in Canada. If these people hadn't been so greedy and stupid, and spent just a hundred dollars or so when doing their stupid thing, a few people would now be living and prison sentences would have been much shorter.
