Latest research in computer vision-a special issue on VI 2002

As Program Chairs of the 15th International Conference on Vision Interface (VI 2002) and guest editors of this special issue, we are pleased to bring to the readership of IVC a collection of 12 papers that represent the best contributions to VI 2002. These 12 papers cover several important research areas in computer vision, and it is our belief that this special issue will serve as a valuable new resource for the computer vision community. VI 2002 was held May 27-29, 2002, in Calgary, Canada. A total of 90 papers from 18 different countries were submitted to the conference, of which 50 were accepted to appear in the conference proceedings. Based on the reviewers' recommendations and the guest editors' careful consideration, authors of some of the 50 accepted papers were invited to revise and extend their conference papers, for consideration of publication in this special issue. The revised papers then went through a separate and independent review process managed by the IVC editor to assure that the quality of the special issue meets the IVC's publication standard. The 12 papers that are appearing in this special issue represent the the result of that review process and the final selection.
