A Personal View: Formats, Foibles - and Television

Whilst peering over ten toes at a 29 inch screen at the foot of the bed, a 'Formatted for Television' super reminded me of the recent image format articles. This prompted the question: Should further discussions include a review of the presentation criteria and the abused images so frequently imposed within their invisible borders? Initially, is 16:9 an acceptable compromise between 1.33:1 and 1.85:1 and is it a practicable objective? Before making any revisions, our BSC colleagues would be wise not relinquish any more of the image area because the vacant space will be immediately occupied by another sound track format!
