In 1953, the great Actor-Manager presented a comprehensive treatise to the Society: we can only scratch the surface of the essentials, assisted by some of his well-chosen illustrations. The craft of acting had been a mystery, until Stanislavsky published his master-works, early in the century - timely enough, with the rise of motion pictures, bringing craft demands that were sometimes similar, but sometimes very different.
