Nitrate Film book wins £5000 prize for 'best book on the moving image'

The distinguished Hungarian film director Miklos Jancso, maker of films such as The Roundup, Red Psalm, The confrontation and Hungarian Rhapsody came from Budapest to present the prizes at this year's Kraszna-Krausz Book Awards ceremony, which was held at the Hungarian Embassy in London as an appropriate tribute to the centenary of the birth of Andor Kraszna-Krausz. Many BKSTS members will be familiar with the work of K-K, who came to Britain in the late 1 930s and set up Focal Press, one of the leading publishers of books on photography and the moving image. In 1989 he established the K-K foundation, which gives these prestigious book awards and makes grants in the fields of the moving image and photography and seeks to encourage good writing and high standards of reproduction in books about the media. In 1 997 the BKSTS was fortunate enough to receive a grant to employ a professional librarian to catalogue its extensive technical library, which now resides at the BUFVC premises in Wells Street, London, where it can be used by members on request.
