In May this year I had the honour of being elected President of the Society after spending 2 years as Honorary Secretary. Many of you from a broadcasting background will probably already know me or at least have heard of me as I have been associated with broadcast TV for over 40 years. However one of the things which make the BKSTS such an interesting Society to serve is the sheer variety of job functions and breadth of skill base of its membership - right across the entire media industry! This means that some of you are probably thinking "who is this guy and what's he done that makes him suitable to be President of the BKSTS?" So let me introduce myself. I am Ted Taylor. I joined the BBC as a trainee engineer in 1963. A few years with "Auntie" (as she was always known until christened "the Beeb" by Kenny Everett!), was followed by a spell working in the then embryonic facilities business in Soho. This was a baptism of fire after the feather bed environment of the BBC of those days - and it taught me some hard learnt, never to be forgotten, lessons about the commercial realities of the real world.
