Obituary: Norman King, MBE, FBKS

Norman Hamilton King was born in 1917 in Harrow and was educated locally at John Lyons School where he became head of the Scientific Society. In 1936 he went straight from school to Ealing Studios, then called A.T.R (Associated Talking Pictures), as a Sound Camera Operator, working on films such as Look Up and Laugh with Gracie Fields and on George Formby comedies. After the 1937-8 slump he became the Studios' Maintenance Engineer. Production resumed under Michael Balcon in September 1938, but World War Ⅱ broke out a year later.
