An electromagnetic plane wave incident on a periodic surface is diffracted into discrete directions. Many works indicated that, when the angle of incidence becomes low grazing, only the reflection occurs, no diffraction takes place, and the total field vanishes and becomes a shadow physically. This paper demonstrates that such the shadow appears for almost all perfectly conductive periodic surfaces. Due to the existance of a guided standing wave, such the shadow no longer appears for a perfectly conductive step grating with the resonance and double anomaly conditions.%回折格子により入射平面波は離散的な方向へ回折される。
