The main objective of this research work is to investigate the possibility of arbitrary transfer functions synthesis using large scale integrated optical FIR filters. A novel method of controlling which enables accurate setting of filter tap coefficients is proposed and verified. The advance of the proposal method is its simplicity, and independence of the filter scale. Using the integrated optical FIR filter with the proposed control method, we demonstrate synthesis of arbitrary frequency responses with emphasis on applications to high speed DWDM systems. A dispersion-free with rectangular magnitude transfer response is approximately realized, which has a given bandwidth, wavelength tunablity, linear-phase property and sharp-edge characteristics. A continuously tunable optical delay line is demonstrated even though the FIR filter consists of discrete time delay elements. A tunable optical equalizer for 40-Gbit/s optical signals, which has the inverse Gaussian intensity profile and the parabolic-phase response is developed to compensate for both tight filtering and chromatic dispersion effects.%本発表では、平面導波路光回路(PLC)型光有限インパルス(FIR)応答フィルタを用いた伝達関数の任意制御方法を提案する。
